Thought Leadership Associate – External Communications

OVERVIEW: The D. E. Shaw group seeks a proactive, analytical individual with proven research and communication skills to join its External Communications group as an associate on its Thought Leadership team. This team produces markets-, economics-, and tech-focused content across a range of media to support the firm’s fundraising, recruiting, and branding initiatives. WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

• Manage the drafting and review process for content including white papers, speaking engagements and presentations, and short-form materials.

• Collaborate with individuals spanning the firm’s investment research and tech disciplines, as well as Investor Relations, Media Communications, and Legal & Compliance.

• Ideate, manage, and implement projects to support the team’s content sourcing, amplification initiatives, and infrastructure.

• Build relationships with stakeholders across the firm to identify and execute on new ideas for thought leadership.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A bachelor’s degree or higher and at least two to five years of experience in roles requiring impressive analytical and research abilities, written communication, and project management.

• Academic or professional experience in finance, economics, statistics, or another quantitative discipline is valued but not required; a successful candidate will demonstrate learning agility and a desire to rigorously analyze a range of problems.

• Sound collaborative ability, commitment to high standards, and well-developed writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

• The expected annual base salary for this position is $135,000 to $185,000. Marketing Communications Associate – External Communications

OVERVIEW: The D. E. Shaw group seeks a proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented individual to join its External Communications group as an associate on its Marketing Communications team. This team produces fundraising materials and investor-focused communications that are integral to our firm’s fundraising, client service, and asset retention efforts across products. The position offers the opportunity to leverage project management and communication skills while collaborating in a collegial and dynamic environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

• Draft, review, and edit investor-focused communications (e.g., pitch decks, client presentations, RFP responses, due diligence questionnaires) with rigor and precision in support of the firm’s current and new investment products.

• Coordinate with various groups across the firm, including investment teams, Investor Relations, Legal & Compliance, and Financial Operations.

• Ideate, manage, and implement projects to support the team’s technology/GAI initiatives and infrastructure to further its strategic growth.

• Gain significant exposure to all aspects of the firm’s investment products.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Creative, engaging content that resonates with our target audiences will sit at the heart of our marketing & communications strategy, helping us to increase awareness of our brands and what we offer among new audiences, and support deeper engagement with those who already know us.

The Senior Content Manager will oversee the delivery of consistently high-quality, creative content across our channels (including websites, social media, marketing collateral, special reports and internal communications) that will enable us to meet our objectives.

This is a newly-created role that combines strategy and delivery, providing the opportunity for the postholder to shape the direction of our content programme at an exciting time of growth for business.

Based in London (hybrid; minimum 3 days a week in office), this role reports to the Head of Marketing & Communications. The successful candidate will work closely with International marketing team colleagues in the UK, EU and MENA, as well as global colleagues in the USA, ensuring content is tailored to the needs of specific audiences but is also consistent and on-brand across all markets in which we operate.

In this role, you will:

• Oversee the International marketing team’s content programme, devising and planning content that supports the firm’s strategic objectives across different audiences and geographies
• Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to develop content that showcases our unique expertise and resonates with our audiences
• Write, produce and edit short-form and long-form content including website articles, case studies, reports and guides, marketing collateral, social media
• Manage internal and external partners to produce engaging content across a variety of media and channels

• Explore different content formats and channels to enhance storytelling across various media
• Alongside the Marketing Manager, create and maintain a suite of high-quality marketing materials and templates for each brand (brochureware, factsheets, website, etc), helping to build credibility with our audiences
• Ensure all content across the business is consistent, polished, and on-brand, helping to build trust and credibility with our audiences
• Act as a centralised resource for the International business on all content queries
• Mentor Marketing & Communications team colleagues on all things content
• Deputise for the Head of Marketing & Communications in her absence.

What we’re looking for:

• Extensive experience creating best-in-class content, ideally for B2B audiences
• The ability to spot a compelling story and deliver it in a way that resonates with the target audience
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, working within a voice and style guide to keep our content consistent and on-brand
• A keen eye for detail, with the ability to act as quality and brand arbiter for all content across the International business
• Substantial experience in either producing (or directing the production of) high quality, creative digital content such as videos, animations, podcasts, data viz

• Solid project management experience, prioritising tasks and coordinating agency and internal stakeholders to deliver on time and to brief
• Experience using data to analyse, report and refine activity
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable working with colleagues at all levels of seniority and in other locations globally
• Someone who enjoys working proactively, bringing fresh ideas to the team rather than waiting for direction.
